The Brand

Why does Ora use organic, plant-based ingredients instead of synthetic, lab made chemicals?

When it comes to food and nutrition, we put our faith in nature over man-made chemicals. Synthetic chemical ingredients have traditionally dominated the nutritional supplements industry for decades because they are cheaper to produce. We believe, however, that the quality and source of the supplements we take is just as important as the quality and source of the food we eat. As a result, we only use pure, organic, plant-based nutrients in our products and never include any artificial ingredients or GMOs.

Why does Ora focus on sustainability?

Our animal-based food and agricultural system is a leading cause of water overconsumption, pollution, fish stock depletion and climate change - and it won’t be able to sustain the world’s rapidly growing population. This system is broken and needs to be fixed. We provide sustainable ways for you to get omega-3s, probiotics and protein because we believe that a shift toward plant-based nutrition is a positive way to protect our planet and conserve our vital natural resources. Our bottles are recyclable and our shipping boxes are made from 100% post-consumer material that is fully recyclable and biodegradable.

Why can't I just get all these nutrients from what I eat?

Supplements are not meant to replace a healthy, well balanced diet. The dictionary defines a supplement as a thing added to something else in order to complete or enhance it. There is no silver bullet diet trick out there and nothing beats eating high quality food. Anyone who tells you otherwise is just plain wrong. Even if we try our best to eat healthy, though, we still need high quality supplements to complete and enhance our diets in today’s world. This is because:

  1. Irresponsible farming practices have decimated soil quality. Depleted soils mean that plant-based foods don’t contain the same nutrient value they once did. For example, you would need to consume over 70 servings of spinach to get the same amount of iron that a single serving contained in 1948 (sorry, Popeye).
  2. We’re busy and we’re only getting busier. Unless we’re a celebrity and have a personal chef, we need other solutions to get high quality nutrients while we’re on the go.
  3. The cost of eating high quality salmon (omega-3s), grass fed or free range meats (protein), and drinking kombucha every day (probiotics) adds up quickly. Ora’s supplements are an affordable way to guarantee you get these vital nutrients each and every day, no matter what.

What should I be looking for when I'm buying supplements? Is there a checklist?

Here’s what to look for in a supplement:

  1. Does the supplement come from plants (actual fruits, vegetables, grains, superfoods, etc.), or is it made of synthetic, lab created chemicals?
  2. Can I pronounce all the ingredients on the label?
  3. What kind of tests were run on the product to prove label accuracy and ingredient purity?
  4. What kind of independent quality certifications does the product have?
  5. What research has been done on the nutrients contained in the products?
  6. How does it taste?
  7. Is the supplement a cost effective way to get the nutrition I need?

How do I know if these supplements are right for me?

Ora's supplements come from the same high quality organic, plant-based ingredients that you’ll find in the produce section at your local health foods market. Or you can go with the various synthetic chemicals that our loosely regulated supplements industry provides. Take your pick : )

Where are our products made?

We source high quality ingredients from around the world, but everything comes together in sunny Southern California where our products are crafted.

Our Products

Where can I buy Ora’s products?

Right here. We prefer to keep our prices affordable and bring you the freshest ingredients by selling direct-to-you.

How should I take my products?

Omega-3:Shake well. Spray 12 times directly into the mouth. Can be taken any time of day, with or without food. Ora’s tip: Do two rounds in a row of 6 sprays each. Because omega-3 supports cognition, take it first thing in the morning or during the post-lunch 'lull' at work. Probiotics + Prebiotics: Take both capsules at the same time of day. Probiotics are most effective when taken just before or with a meal. However, our strains were selected due to their ability to resist stomach acid, so they'll still be effective at any time of day. Ora’s tip: If you don’t like swallowing capsules, you can easily break them open and pour the probiotics onto oatmeal, cereal or into your morning juice or smoothie. We take ours just before breakfast. Superfood Protein: Blend, shake or stir two scoops of Ora Superfood Protein powder with 8-12 oz of chilled water or milk (any kind). Ora’s tip: Chef Ron, Ora’s in-house culinary whizz, recommends pairing with one and a half cups of almond or soy milk to create a creamy chai latte experience.

How should I store the products?

Omega-3: Store at room temperature and away from direct sunlight. FYI if you prefer to take it chilled, refrigeration is totally cool too. Probiotics + Prebiotics: Store at room temperature and away from humidity and direct sunlight. Ora’s probiotics are freeze dried and completely stable at room temperature. Superfood Protein: Store at room temperature and away from direct sunlight.

Why are Ora’s Omega-3, Probiotics + Prebiotics and Superfood Protein foundational to my health (i.e. something I should have everyday)?

The health benefits of omega-3 fatty acids (specifically DHA and EPA), probiotics and dietary protein are well documented and widely recognized by doctors, scientists and nutritionists. Tens of thousands of studies have proven that these nutrients are vital to our everyday health, regardless of age or gender. We don’t deal with rare herbal supplements because their effects are typically unproven. Instead we focus only on nutrients whose benefits are commonly accepted by the medical, science and nutrition communities.

Why did Ora bring on a chef to craft flavors for its supplements?

Healthy living should be enjoyable. We were sick of having to pinch our noses in order to tolerate our supplements, so we thought: who better to help design our tastes than someone who specializes in making food taste delicious? Our Culinary Artist, Chef Ron Chang, brought his passion and creativity from the restaurant industry to make delicious plant-based supplements. Our current flavors are only just the beginning of what we have in store.

Why isn’t our Omega-3 USDA Organic certified?

The USDA currently doesn’t have an organic classification for fish or microalgae oil. This is why you won’t find a USDA Organic certified fish oil product on the market. The day the USDA catches up, we’ll be the first to submit our microalgae Omega-3 for official certification. In the meantime, you can rest assured that our microalgae is GMO free and grown and fermented in pristine drinking quality water, making it free of all the ocean toxins and contaminants found in fish oil.

Why is it better to get your omega-3s from microalgae rather than fish oil?

The world's seafood supply is projected to collapse in the next 35 years unless we make some drastic changes. Fish get all their omega-3’s by eating algae, they aren’t just born with it. We’re going straight to the source for our omega-3s in an effort to reduce the demand for both dietary fish intake and fish oil. Additionally, Ora’s microalgae is 100% vegan, fermented and sustainably harvested from drinking quality water to avoid the nasty toxins that pollute our oceans these days. Free of toxins, PCBs, mercury, and lead? Conserve fish? It’s a no brainer.

Why is it better to get your omega-3s from microalgae in spray form rather than as a capsule?

Omega-3 oil capsules are gigantic and hard to swallow. They also cause a nasty fish aftertaste, burps and acid reflux. Find anyone who actually enjoys fish oil capsules and we’ll find you a tap dancing pony.

Why is it better to get your omega-3s from microalgae in spray form rather than in liquid form, like the kind you keep in your fridge?

Every single time you open the cap on a liquid omega-3 oil, you expose the essential oils to oxygen. Omega-3s are especially sensitive and every exposure to oxygen speeds up the oxidation process. What’s the big deal? Oxidized omega-3 is not only denatured to the point where it’s ineffective, but it’s also potentially harmful and inflammatory - which defeats the point of taking omega-3 in the first place.
